Native Garden and Medicine Wheel

Come enjoy our native desert plant garden and Medicine Wheel. If you need a
break from the hubbub of everyday life, our back garden area may provide the
quiet sanctuary that you are looking for. The B&B sits on 3 acres overlooking
the Rio Grande River Valley. There is a native cactus garden with benches dotted
throughout the back yard, affording people the opportunity to get away from
phones, computers etc, and listen to the natural sounds of the desert.

Nestled amongst the Creosote bushes is a Medicine Wheel based upon ancient
native principals. Guests are invited to use the Medicine Wheel for meditation
and healing or just plain quiet time. If interested, guests can request
individual or group teachings on the power of the Medicine Wheel and learn the
processes used by ancient people around the world.
Native desert wildlife and birds fill the area in the back yard and a
variety of butterflies flitter through the gardens from February through
November.
While we are no experts on birds, we most
certainly appreciate our wing-ed friends companionship. Our guests
enjoy sitting on the patio, meandering the back yard or walking the
nearby desert in search of our feathered friends. Bring your camera,
binoculars and check it out.

Our Commitment to the Environment

We are aware that we live in a world of limited natural
resources, and particularly because we live in a High Desert
Climate, we have strived to save water wherever we can, and use the
gift of the sun. We respect the environment and work hard to support
the natural and organic cycles of life. We try to avoid harmful
chemicals and excess waste of non-replenishable materials.
Whenever we have a choice of how we do business, we choose the
way that uses the least amount of non-renewable resources. To that
end, we:
- Have an energy efficient building, which utilizes passive
solar strategies.
- Recycle whatever we can.
- Compost all organic materials and use this to replenish our
garden soil.
- Use solar exterior lighting.
- Dry laundry on a clothesline instead of a dryer.
- Use cloth napkins and dishware that can be cleaned and
reused.
- Use the most energy efficient water delivery systems to
outdoor plants and gardens, which feature drought tolerant,
native plants, and plan to use gray water for irrigation in the
near future.
- As appliances need to be replaced, we purchase those with
high-energy efficiency ratings.
We encourage our guests to explore and enjoy the natural desert experience, and
are happy to provide information about energy efficient living in a desert
environment. We applaud people who share our philosophy of respect for the
environment, and welcome travelers who are interested in living as green as
possible.
