In and about El Paso
The El Paso & Ciudad Juarez area has 30 museums, which include the following:
- Centennial Museum/Chihuahuan Desert Gardens, University of Texas at El Paso. Features the natural and cultural history of the Southwestern United States and Mexico.
- Chamizal National Memorial (National Park Service). Commemorates the Chamizal Treaty, ending the 100-year-old boundary dispute between Mexico and the United States.
- El Paso Firefighters Museum. Contains one of only two "Steamer" Engines in its original condition.
- El Paso Museum of Archaeology. Telling the story of the first inhabitants of the El Paso area, the greater Southwest and northern Mexico.
- El Paso Museum of Art. Houses a permanent collection for more than 6,000 works of art including the Samuel H. Kress Collection of European art from the 13th-18th centuries.
- Fort Bliss Museums and Study Center. Covering the history of the U.S. Army at El Paso.
- Hueco Tanks State Historic Site. Known for its many American Indian rock paintings and unique geology.
- Keystone Heritage Park. An archaic period archaeological site, a wetland and a desert botanical garden. The 4,000 -year-old archaeological site is one of the oldest villages in the United States.
- Magoffin Home State Historic Site. A twenty room 1875 adobe home containing original family furnishings of this El Paso pioneer, politician and civic leader.
- Tigua Indian Cultural Center.
- War Eagles Air Museum. Features a collection of 31 World War II and Korean War military aircraft, most of them flight worthy and over 40 automobiles.
Hiking, picnicking and climbing:
- Hueco Tanks State Historic Site. Reservations recommended. (915) 857-1135

Horse And Riding Information
There are two stables which provide trail rides, both located within 1.5 miles of our Bed and Breakfast. Rates are $30 for 1 hour 20 minute rides in the High Desert Terrain. Longer rides are available, as well as barbeque dinners. Advance reservations required.
Serious Horse Aficionados:
Flight Leader Farm offers training in Endurance Racing, coached participation in actual Endurance racing, and have endurance and thoroughbred horses for sale. Endurance racing occurs in our area during the winter months.
Travelers with Horses:
A stable, which will board horses, is located 1/2 mile from our Bed and Breakfast. There is plenty of open space to exercise horses just outside the door. Please call in advance to assure availability and to get current rates.
Horse Racing: The Sunland Park Race Track and Casino are only 20 minutes from our door. Live Racing at the track is held during the Fall and Winder months only. Video racing is available year round.
Mountain Biking and Bike Touring:
The Mesilla Valley and mountain areas offer some unique and beautiful biking opportunities for all levels of biking skill and degrees of difficulty.
Remolino Adventures (our almost neighbors) provide guided tours into Mexico. Casa de Sueños is a perfect place to stay at the beginning and end of the journey for a quick and easy crossing into Mexico.
Day Trip #1: White Sands National Monument
White Sands National Monument (1 hr 45 min from the B&B) preserves a major portion of the world's largest gypsum dune field, along with the plants and animals that have successfully adapted to this harsh environment. Visitor Center, museum, 8-mile scenic drive, hiking trails & ranger-guided walks.
Consider driving on to Alamogordo (40 min) to visit the New Mexico Museum of Space History.
Or consider driving north another 45 minutes to the Three Rivers Petroglyph Site managed by the Bureau of Land Management. It is one of the greatest concentrations of prehistoric Native American rock art on the continent - more than 21,000 petroglyphs or rock etchings.
Day Trip #2: Carlsbad Caverns National Park
Carlsbad Caverns National Park is a subterranean marvel. Created slowly over the millennia, its beautiful formations awe visitors year round. It is one of twenty World Heritage sites in the United States. Self-guided tours and ranger-guided tours are available. This is a full day taking 3 hours to get to Carlsbad, but worth every minute.
Day Trip #3: Palomas, Mexico, Faywood Hot Springs & St. Clair Winery
An hour west of the Bed and Breakfast is Columbus, NM. You can visit Pancho Villa State Park and then cross the border into Mexico (a 3 block walk) to visit the Pink Adobe Store & Restaurant, the Drug Store and other shops.
You can then head north to Deming, NM (35 miles) and visit the St. Clair Winery and the Deming Museum.
Or you may decide to go on north another 28 miles to Faywood Hot Springs to sit in one of the dozen mineral water soaking pools.
Day Trip #4: Mesilla and Las Cruces:
A leisurely trip up old highway 28 through cotton and chili fields and pecan orchards. There are two wineries you can visit, Stahmann's Pecan Store and of course, historic Old Mesilla, New Mexico. Over 50 unique shops, award winning restaurants and cafes and museums & galleries.
And if you have time, or choose to make a second trip, there is always the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Museum in Las Cruces and the 1.5 mile hike at Dripping Springs.
