Our Commitment to the Environment

We are aware that we live in a world of limited natural resources, and particularly because we live in a High Desert Climate, we have strived to save water wherever we can, and use the gift of the sun. We respect the environment and work hard to support the natural and organic cycles of life. We try to avoid harmful chemicals and excess waste of non-replenishable materials.

Whenever we have a choice of how we do business, we choose the way that uses the least amount of non-renewable resources. To that end, we:

  • Have an energy efficient building, which utilizes passive solar strategies.
  • Recycle whatever we can.
  • Compost all organic materials and use this to replenish our garden soil.
  • Use solar exterior lighting.
  • Dry laundry on a clothesline instead of a dryer.
  • Use cloth napkins and dishware that can be cleaned and reused.
  • Use the most energy efficient water delivery systems to outdoor plants and gardens, which feature drought tolerant, native plants, and plan to use gray water for irrigation in the near future.
  • As appliances need to be replaced, we purchase those with high-energy efficiency ratings.

We encourage our guests to explore and enjoy the natural desert experience, and are happy to provide information about energy efficient living in a desert environment. We applaud people who share our philosophy of respect for the environment, and welcome travelers who are interested in living as green as possible.

POLICES

CHECK IN

Check-In is between 3:30 pm and 7:00 pm.  Please call ahead for availability of earlier or later check-in times.  Because there is not a front desk like there is in a hotel, and the innkeepers are up early to prepare breakfast, we ask that you try to adhere to the established check in times as much as possible.

CHECK OUT

Check-Out is 11:00 am.  Arrangements must be made for later check-out times.  Guests staying longer than 30 minutes past the established check out time will be charged a late fee of $25 for each 30 minutes past check out time.

CHILDREN

Children 6 years and older are welcome.  The $10.00 charge per extra person also applies to each child.  Our facility is just not set up for toddlers and younger children.  There are many prickly cacti, and some desert critters in the gardens that can certainly be hazardous to unsuspecting little ones.

SMOKING

All rooms and areas within the building are non-smoking areas.  Smoking is permitted in all outdoor areas.  An extra cleaning fee of $375.00 will be charged for smoking in any of the rooms or interior areas of the house.

CANCELLATION CHARGES

There is no cancellation charge for cancellations made more than 30 days before the check-in date.

Cancellations made between 10 and 30 days before the check in date will be charged $15.00.

Cancellations made 10 days or less before the check in date will be the full amount of the reservation.  A gift certificate, good for 120 days, will be given for the full amount of the reservation of the cancelled reservation.  Use of the gift certificate is subject to availability.  We will make every effort to rent the room for the timeframe of your cancelled reservation to avoid cancellation fees.

PETS

Well mannered pets are allowed with prior permission in the Oso and Tortugas rooms.

Pets are not to be left unattended in the room or on the rom's private patio.  Pets are to be kept on a leash at all times.  Owners are expected to pick up after their pets have gone to the bathroom and plastic bags will be provided on request.  Pet owners are responsible for damage caused by pets and extra fees may be assessed for cleaning or if needed, for replacement of furnishings.  Pets are not permitted on the beds or furniture because of the sensitivity of other travellers to pet dander and hair.

Items left at the B&B

If you leave personal items (cell phone chargers, clothes, etc.) please contact us and we will gladly return them to you.  There will be a service charge of $25.00 plus the cost of postage.  This is due to our rural location and needing to make a special trip to the post office.

On business in El Paso, Texas, I researched places to stay on the internet and determined from pictures online that the most relaxing place to stay would be Casa de Suenos, in another state. Indeed, this was true. The drive from El Paso was not long, and, turning up the dirt road to the Country Inn, I found myself excited at the prospect of a silent desert night. My room was comfortable, with a wine key and glasses, plus a coffee maker, and I enjoyed both coffee and wine on my adorable patio overlooking three mountain ranges (two in two different states and one in Mexico.) Breakfast was wholesome and interesting and the proprietors are lovely, as are their dogs. Should business take me again to El Paso (or that part of New Mexico), I will surely stay at Casa de Suenos again.

This New Mexico Bed and Breakfast is off the beaten track, but is close to Mesilla Valley with its great vineyards, as well as West El Paso, TX, and a Mexico border crossing. Marlene Eichner, the owner, whips up marvelous breakfasts and great coffee! Her guests come from all over the world, and she has become a favorite of military families and contractors, as well. There are 4 bedrooms in this southwestern delight, with private patios, fountains, and gardens. It actually is in a great location to Las Cruces (an Albuquerque, NM couple stayed here during my visit to see a concert in Las Cruces, along with a English couple traveling the Southwest who went horseback riding) and El Paso, Texas. Yet, the sunrises and sunsets, along with the peace and quiet, make it seem as though you are in another world. Besides the privacy and homey feeling, breakfasts are a delight, as guests chat with each other and Marlene and share wonderful stories. The B&B…

I had a lot of work to do in the area with long days and long hours. The coffee at my door before I opened my eyes, the lovely gourmet breakfast, and overall peaceful/homey atmosphere of the bed and breakfast helped me to get the job done. The ability to take a walk in the desert in the evening after my work was done was priceless. There are enchanted moments that happen twice a day in New Mexico, just after sunrise and and just before sunset. This is a great place to experience those moments.

George and Marlene were excellent hosts and our room more than met our expectations. Our train was late arriving in El Paso, but we kept Marlene up to date from the train on our progress and they were waiting to welcome us when we finally arrived well after dark. We would recommend this B&B to anyone.
